RESULTS OF CONSTITUENTS' PREFERENCE SURVEY (2007)

INTRODUCTION: In 2005 and 2006, I distributed a survey (questionnaire) throughout my senatorial district. More than 600 constituents and more than 700 constituents responded in these two years, respectively. In 2007, I expanded access to the survey through direct mailings, Internet postings, and newspaper advertisements, and I changed the format to allow two persons (husband and wife, for example) to express individual viewpoints on the same report form. Approximately 2,500 persons responded in 2007!

Responses have been tablulated, and I analyzed the results in a timely, ongoing manner. I personally read every comment on the day it was received. Comments have been excellent and helpful. Thank you! I considered constituents' preferences, when I voted.

I had planned to write a personal letter to each participant. After writing 300 to 400 letters, it became obvious I could not write a personal letter to each person. Forgive me, if you did not receive a letter, but I made the decision that it was not the best use of my time and resources to write this many letters.

RESULTS: Following are results of all participants, expressed as percentages rounded to the nearest whole number. Please understand that this is not a statistically valid poll, in that participants were self-selected, rather than being enlisted in a randomized manner.

I presented a series of questions, asking participants to assign a letter grade-- A (excellent) through F (failure) to evaluate the performance of persons in state government or state government programs.

Participants' evaluations ranged from A through F for all persons or programs.

After subtracting the "No Opinion" responses, I determined the grade point average (GPA) for each person or program, using the standard school grading system (A = 4 points, B = 3 points, C = 2 points, D = 1 point, and F = 0 points).
